The Defense Hill Modelers' Association

The Defense Hill Modelers' Association is a group of people with one common and strong bond, building and flying R/C planes and we'd like to invite you to become a member of our club.

BENEFITS OF MEMBERSHIP

  • We have a 500+’ grass strip flying site. A sprinkler System is now being installed and will be ready for the 98 flying year. Restrooms are being constructed as well. The field is located on the north side of Rt.25A in Shoreham, across from the Shoreham High School at the north end of Defense Hill Road. This field is maintained by voluntary help from club members, with funds from the club treasury. Field hours are from 9am till dusk 7 Days a week.
  • We hold monthly meetings, where club business etc., is discussed.
  • Flight Instructors are available and we have now instituted a pilot proficiency program to assist new members in learning to solo and to improve and upgrade pilot skills.
  • Competitive events like our "Fun Fly’s" and club picnics and hopefully a club trip or two.
  • Assistance with many technical problems and fostering fellowship with other modelers who share a common interest. You'll always find members eager to help you through out all phases of the hobby.

REQUIREMENTS FOR MEMBERSHIP

Should you want to join DHMA, here are some things you'll need:

  • Your AMA card.
  • DHMA Club dues are $30. Per year, with a $20. Initiation fee.

Your invited to stop by the field. Club members will be glad to talk kits with you or if you've got one built (or nearly) we can check it out for you and offer any advice. Bring it to the field on a Saturday or Sunday and ask one of the members to give it a pre-flight and if you want and if all checks out OK, they can give it a check out flight. This highly recommended, not because we just want to fly your plane but because a qualified pilot has the experience to make any adjustments during flight and to handle any problems that arise from a plane that hasn’t been set up just right. Learning to fly is not difficult, Its just a lot different than any thing you've done before. Anyone can learn to fly R/C if they are willing to learn and listen and conduct them-selves in a safe manner. What seems awkward at first quickly becomes easy later. An instructor will get you flying via a 'Buddy Box" which is simply a way of hooking your radio to his with a buddy cord so that while your flying and have a problem the instructor can take control instantly with the flip of a switch.
